1. Happy New Year to everyone. Given the amount of snow around and the expected cold freeze it has been decided all sections will start up again on 15th Jan 10. We look forward to seeing everyone again.

1. Tabor has taken the decision to close today so for safety and since only the Scout section was running this week I have decided to cancel Scouts tonight. I will post all return dates when they are decided.  We wish everyone a safe and happy Christmas and a wonderful new year.

   Saturday 12th December..Broaks Wood Hike and wide game.
    
   Meet at Gosfield Playing Field Car Park 10am.On the Lake Road between the Kings Head Pub and the Church Grid Ref 782 296.approx
   Hike to Broaks Wood for lunch stop and wide games. Hike back to Gosfield Playing Field for collection approx 3.30pm.
    
   Scruffs & scarf. Daysack with Packed lunch & drink. Waterproofs and warm clothes with hat & gloves and hiking boots.

1. It is looking like it will be a nice cold weekend so those going on the Winter Camp please make sure you have enough clothes to have 3-5 thin layers on. We want to prove we can stay warm and comfortable in cold conditions.
2. There are rumours of young people being approached by strangers. I would like our Scout group meetings to continue to be a place of fun and safety so I would like to request young people and parents are extra vigilant and follow all the normal safety advice. Especially advice about walking in groups of 2 or more.

1. Children In Need -
   We are taking a role in Children in Need on Friday.
    
   We will draw a Pudsey for all to fill in from Beavers, Cubs and Scouts with their loose change, and send it off to the BBC appeal this Friday night.
    
   For £1.00 a go, we also have a Pudsey Pose Competition.  Choose a pose on the poster that will be displayed and write your name on it.  The correct pose can be revealed at Scout night and box of chocolates given as a prize to the winner.
    
   The material for this event is from the Fundraising Pack from the BBC.

1. Kandersteg Photos - if you have any Kandersteg photos you are happy to share with everyone else please can you put them on a memory stick or CD-R, DVD-R and bring them to Scouts Friday. We currently have 13gb of photos so they can't be put on a DVD unless reduced in size. I am therefore considering that or creating a tree and leaf system. I make 3 copies and then pass them to people who then in turn make 3 copies and pass them on. Any other ideas are most welcome.

3. Swine Flu - Firstly I hope all Scouts are seeing and sensing themselves as being totally health for the duration of Kandersteg and longer. However as scout leaders we need to be prepared and parents should be reassured that should anyone become ill before or during the trip the travel insurance covers them for cancellation and for a parent to fly out and collect a young person.

1. Scouts is at Tabor as normal on 26th June. However Scouts are welcome to go to Prances and help set up a camp for Braintree Swim Club and then join in a camp fire. Any Scouts doing this are meeting at Prances at 7pm.
2. Kandersteg meeting - On 3rd July 09 at 9.00pm. Can all Kandersteg Scouts and their parents attend please. Scouts not attending Kandersteg will continue in the hall.

1. Broadstone Warren Update - We are leaving Tabor at 10am on Friday. Packed lunch is required. You don't need your Beret and you can swap your scout shirt for a group T-shirt if you prefer.

2. As per the program this weeks activity it a night hike. We meet at Tabor at 7.30 and we will be hiking to Rayne Station with a hope for arrival of 9.30 where parents will be expected to collect from. Scouts should wear Boots, Scruffs and the group Scarf. They should carry a day sack with water, emergency energy food, a first aid kit and waterproofs. 
3. Due to a complete lack of response Gliding for April 9th has had to be cancelled. We will extend the deadline for the 26th May to April 3rd. If we don't get enough take up I will then offer places to another group.

1. Change Of Program - Well done to all those camping at the weekend. That was a very advanced camp you have achieved there. Given the temperatures expected Friday night we have decided to switch back to being at Tabor and leave the wide game for another time. We are sure the campers are still appreciating being warm!

1. Seasons End camp - If you are lucky it might snow this weekend. It is therefore likely to be cold. Please ensure you have lots of thin layers. Wearing three t-shirts is more likely to keep you warmer than a thick jumper. A camp blanket is also ideal. Camping in the cold is a great experience. Make it a warm one too!
